It’s simply dishonest and unfair to include a student’s behavior in a grade–to allow a student with weak understanding to get a higher, inflated grade. Awarding “participation” points (for contributing to discussions and being prepared for class) or giving students points for submitting HW (regardless of who does it or what help they got) allows students to avoid actual learning.
